Facebook Dialogues on Faith Issues
Why do it?
I connect with online discussion groups for a variety of reasons. Sometime just to learn something new to satisfy my curiosity in history. As an educator, however, I also seek at times to just explore how people think. But content is important, of course. As a Christian, I’m interested in how Christians choose to express their beliefs and how non-believers my choose to listen or react.
My approach and rationale…
I choose at times to engage online. I often think of Christ’s instructions to his disciples to be Salt and Light, both suggesting a penetration, promoting good flavor and as a preservative on the one hand and dispelling darkness on the other. While my walk and talk have at times been grossly substandard, I have grown to recognize in recent years the need for each of us to more diligently seek the means for more representing the Kingdom of God more effectively in the world.
Admittedly not a perfect ambassador of the Kingdom, I desire at least to be mature enough to receive counsel from others. While we may think differently at times due to our differing experiences, learning, and resulting insights, I aim to “speak the truth in love,” as Paul has given us guidance in his letters. Rather than hanging back, I sense we are to use wisdom in stepping forward to act, speak, and even be ready, at times, to risk offense.
Welcoming feedback…
As you choose to read some of my dialogues below, I will appreciate your insights and feedback. In most cases there will be an option to leave public comments at the bottom of these pages. Alternatively, please send private comments to Ronald.Richmond@sasktel.net.
