A No-Apology Appeal for Sam and Family

How I became and continue to be involved

What follows is about a refugee project, a family we want to welcome to Regina.

It is not my project, but one that I help to support and promote.

This is an invitation to learn about Sam and his family, and to come alongside in giving limited assistance.

When first learning of Sam and the plight of his family, I questioned whether I should pause to investigate or, as I have done so often, just “pass by on the other side.”  In opting to check out the story, I discovered a very competent Christian man with significant skills and a steady faith, caught in an extremely difficult situation.  Others, likewise, have chosen to both follow the story and offer support.  Much has been achieved to date, but continuing support is needed to successfully bring this family “home to Regina.”

The larger support context

Like others, my role has been limited. I assist primarily with local Regina promotion and with only modest ability to give financial support.  Others have supported in their own ways.  Many find it amazing that this project has become an international effort, made possible by our digital connectedness.  We, collaboratively, have raised more than $35,500, have successfully assembled a Group of Five to oversee the future settlement of the family in Regina, and have now filed the refugee application with Immigration Canada.

But there is continuing drama here which I humbly ask you to explore.  It includes imprisonment for simply being a refugee in Thailand, release on bail with money raised by overseas supporters, and now a challenging need for Sam to find means of support for his family while being denied the right to take employment in Thailand.

Would you take a few minutes to browse the details of this project? We would love to have you join our support network, as we proceed with this rescue plan for these “Christians at Risk” (the original project name as I firsts found it online).

Thanks for considering.
