My Personal Vistas…

My purpose here is to conveniently record and store information and resources for both personal use and sharing with others.

Some of my community interests may be accessed from tabs on my home page.  Other personal reflections also exist here but are best accessed via links I often share with friends and community groups.

Who is Ron Richmond?

I have been a math/science teacher (10 years in SK, MB, and West Africa) and teacher educator (25 years at UofR Education).  In retirement I have given leadership to English language development and promotion of English teacher upgrading here in Regina and in multiple sites and many visits in China. In addition to my academic qualifications, including PhD, I have a full year of seminary study (CTS, Regina), and have served on a variety of community, church, and overseas mission boards.

My wife, Roberta, and I have a family of three daughters, the youngest being adopted and of Indigenous ancestry, and now 10 more grand and great-grand children.  One daughter is a teacher in Arlington VA, another is former staff at Wheaton College IL and now with the Cardus organization in Hamilton ON, and our youngest and her family (three family units now) reside in North-Central Regina.  Roberta and I are celebrating 60 years together this fall (2023).

This site complements another website, www.CanadianDragonfly.net devoted to my China interests, especially the history of East/West contacts.  Other articles here have been developed over the last decade primarily for the benefit of Chinese contacts both here and there.

Roberta and I have a long history of involvement with international development, having worked with agencies both Christian and secular, and in active professional service and volunteer work with our local Indigenous community.  In my retirement I was employed as a Grade 10 teacher at Peepeekisis First Nation.  With cases of mental illness in our local family, we have become well aware of the causes of homelessness and the need for support of family members who struggle with an ever-increasing complex world.  We currently are connected with inner-city Christian ministries that work to address needs and give support at the levels of the individual, family, and community.
